Getting the Kitchen Ready
There is a lot of preparatory work before the new kitchen arrives and it has taken quite a time ant plenty of dust. Firstly digging up the old floor tiles, smoothing out the old tile adhesive with a scrabbler  and laying the new tiles. Also re-arranging the electrics based on the final Wren layout. Next event will be the delivery of the units.

Worktop Layout

At one end of our kitchen is a U-shaped layout with a sink located on the far wall. Initially our designer put in a layout as in the lower figure. However, this is the most difficult layout for joining worktops in a U-shaped layout and requires considerable care to get it right. It is more usual to use one of the upper worktop configurations and this is what we requested our design to be changed to.

Worktops

Most worktops sold by Wren are square edged with a choice of trim. The showrooms have a number on display that are butt joined. This was the jointing method advised by our designer but the joint lines are fairly obvious. However I asked for details of this jointing method since I was unsure how to deal with the edging strip using their method. Wren produce an assembly instructions booklet for their units but it says nothing about worktops. Apparently worktop joining instruction do exist so our designer requested a copy for me from their installation manager. Nothing has ever arrived. From further investigation it would seem that the best method for joining square edged worktops is a a 10mm inset rather than the 23mm inset used on rounded edge worktops.

Completion The kitchen has been completed now for a few weeks apart from a few minor snagging items to sort out. The final result is shown...
